With over 10 years of experience, Kodiak Customs is a team of builders, skateboarders, and designers dedicated to bringing skatepark visions to life. Whether building a new park or adding features to an existing one, we focus on thoughtful design and quality craftsmanship.
Kodiak Customs is based in Nelson, British Columbia and serves the West Kootenays, with the ability to travel throughout Western Canada for skatepark builds.
kodiak's history
Before Kodiak Customs, the company operated as Kodiak Concrete, founded by Blair Aiken, a best friend, respected skatepark builder, and passionate skateboarder.
Blair brought together skilled crews to build full skateparks, park expansions, driveways, and custom concrete projects. His work was rooted in quality craftsmanship and reflected his deep love for skateboarding and community.
In 2023, we tragically lost Blair to suicide. His legacy continues to guide and inspire us as we carry forward the vision he built.
In May 2024, Jessy Brown, with the support of the Aiken family, took over the business to honour Blair’s legacy and continue the work that both Blair and Jessy loved. Kodiak Customs was created as a continuation of that vision, for the core of skateboarding, and the creativity and community.
kodiak's herstory
Jessy Brown is the owner and lead builder of Kodiak Customs, carrying forward the legacy of Kodiak Concrete with deep respect for the community and craft that shaped it. A queer, non-binary skateboarder and builder, Jessy brings over a decade of hands on experience in concrete construction, carpentry, skatepark building, and design.
Skateboarding has always been at the core for Jessy. Their approach to building skateparks is grounded in lived experience as a skateboarder, with a focus on creating spaces that are thoughtful, functional, and welcoming to the communities that use them.
Beyond their work in the West Kootenay's, Jessy partners with the organization Make Life Skate Life to help build skateparks internationally in underserved communities. These builds bring together builders and skaters from around the world to create free, accessible spaces for youth and local skateboarders.
Jessy is also part of The Mud Misfits, a global collective of women and gender-queer skatepark builders working to expand representation and opportunity within the skatepark construction industry.
Through Kodiak Customs, Jessy continues to honour the legacy of Blair Aiken while helping shape a more inclusive future for skateboarding and the communities that grow around it.
